Are you ever good at planning ahead when it comes to your crochet inventory? Personally, that is something that I constantly struggle with, especial when major holidays are quickly approaching. When holidays like Valentine's Day and Halloween are 2-3 weeks around the corner, I begin to think "I should have planned ahead, now lets see if I can crochet a few items in time." For this year, I am trying to be more proactive (fingers crossed), which is why for the next two months I will be publishing crochet patterns that are fall themed but you can use any color to match your style or specific holidays (I am looking at your Christmas).
Today I am introducing the Crochet Mug Rug Coasters! What I love about this coaster is that the patterns are different on both sides, giving you the option to choose which side of the coaster you will be placing your mug. I also made this coaster bigger than normal (7inx6in) since I know there are large coffee mug lovers like me.
Alright lets get started with the fun pattern!

Crochet Mug Rug Coaster
Starting with your first yarn color of choice
Ch 25
R1) Sc into the second ch from the hook, sc in the next 24 ch [24]
In the next two rows, you will be working on the BLFLsc, meaning that you are going to *put your first sc in the back loop, then for the next st you will be placing the sc in the front loop*, you will be repeating that throughout the next two rows
R2-R3) Ch1, turn your work, BLFLsc in the next 23 st, sc in the last st [24]
Yarn color switch-From rows 4-5, you will switch to your second yarn color of choice
In the next row, we will be working in the FPdc into the pattern along with the BLFLsc
R4) Ch1, turn your work, 1 sc in the same st as the ch, BLsc in the next st, *1 FPdc in next st, 1 BLsc in the next st* repeat this 11 times, in the last stitch make sure to do a sc [24]
R5) Ch1, turn your work, BLFLsc in the next 23 st, sc in the last st [24]

Here is a zoomed picture, so you can see how the pattern looks |
At this point you will be repeating R4-R5 8 times, which will result in a total of 19 rows. Remember to switch colors after finishing the row 5 repeat
R20) Ch1, turn your work, BLFLsc in the next 24 st [24]
Next you are going to f/o, leaving a tail which you will knot off and weave the tail inside the coaster. If you want to add fringes on the sides of the coaster, you are going to cut approximately 4 inches of yarn from the two colors you have selected. Then work those 4 inches into the sides of your coaster.
