Crochet Mother's Days Gift Ideas: 3. Rustic Crochet Bar Stitch Basket

Rustic Crochet Bar Stitch Basket

I will admit, I LOVE baskets! They are such a great and versatile tool to have throughout your home. Plus they come in some many different shapes, sizes, colors and textures which makes me feel like a child at a candy shop every time I got to the basket section of a TJMaxx.

With Mother's Day right around the corner, if there is a mama in your life that is all about baskets (like yours truly), then you should definitely create this Rustic Crochet Bar Stitch Basket. I loved designing/creating this basket because of the amazing texture that the bar stitch brings, it was truly a blast! For this pattern, I decided to use 2 colors but you can choose as many as you like.

Notes:

  1. For this pattern, make sure to work in continuous rounds in the first 13 rounds, which will result in no visible seams. Starting in round 14 you will stop working in continuous rounds and perform slip stitches to end a row.
  2. This pattern is for personal use only. Please do not sell this pattern as your own. Please feel free to sell the finished item and do give credit to Fresh Cut Yarn.
  3. If you will be selling these online, please do provide a link to my shop, thank you!
  4. Show me your work:Share your amazing photos with me on Instagram @freshcutyarn- it truly makes my day seeing how wonderful our creations turn out!

Materials:

Yarn Weight: 4-medium

Crochet hook 3.5mm

Tapestry needle

Stitch marker

Macrame cord 5mm

Abbreviations:

R= round

Ch= chain

Sc= single crochet

FPtr = front post treble crochet

St= stitch

Rsc= reverse single crochet

Sl st = slip stitch

F/o= fasten off

*6= repeat that part of the round 6 times

Basket

Starting at the bottom of the basket, using your first yarn color (if you decide to use more than one color):

R1) Work 6sc into a magic circle [6]

In R2-R11 you will be working on increases

R2) 2sc in each st, *6 [12]

R3) 1sc then 2sc in next st, *6 [18]

R4) 1sc in next 2st then 2sc in next st, *6 [24]

R5) 1sc in next 3st then 2sc in next st, *6 [30]

R6) 1sc in next 4st then 2sc in next st, *6 [36]

R7) 1sc in next 5st then 2sc in next st, *6 [42]

R8) 1sc in next 6st then 2sc in next st, *6 [48]

R9) 1sc in next 7st then 2sc in next st, *6 [54]

R10) 1sc in next 8st then 2sc in next st, *6 [60]

R11) 1sc in next 9st then 2sc in next st, *6 [66]

In R12-R29 you will be working on bar stitches ; R12 & R13 is the foundation rows to start building on the bar stitch.

R12-R13) 1sc in each st for 2 rows [66]

At the end of row 13 you will do a sl st. At this point of the pattern you will be performing sl st at the end of each round.

R14) ch 1, sc in the first 2 sts, FPtr around next st 2 rows below (note: skip the st that is right behind the FPtr, and sc the st right next to it), repeat this 21 times, then 1 sc in the last 2 st, sl st.

R15) 1sc in each st [66]

R16-R29) you will be repeating R14 & R15

Note: if you do decide to use two colors for your basket, I would recommend switching to your second color in R25

R30) 1sc in each st [66]

Now you are going to work on the top row of the basket

R31) 1rsc in each st [66]
Next you are going to f/o, leaving an approximate 5 inch tail which you will use to  hide the tail inside the basket.

Basket Handles (you will be making 2 of them):

Using the Macrame cord 5mm, you will cut 2 strands roughly 12 inches each. With the first strand, you are going to place one end in between R28 & R29, then place the other end of the strand roughly 9-10 stitches apart. Since these are thicker strands, I would recommend just making a little knot and that should keep the handles in place.
Repeat this process for the second handle.

Congrats on creating your very own basket!! I hope you enjoyed creating this basket, please let me know in the comments below if you would like to make them in various sizes. I am debating on making them larger.

Crochet Mother's Days Gift Ideas: 2. Classic Cotton Farmers Market Bag

With Mother's Day quickly approaching, I wanted to create a pattern for the type of woman who loves earthy colors and enjoys picking out fresh organic produce at their local farmers market. This the type of woman who prefers using a reusable bag that is both fantastic for the environment while also looking extremely fashionable. If you know of a mom like this, then the Classic Cotton Farmers Market Bag would be the perfect gift for her on Mother's Day!

As stated in the title, this bag is made out of 100% cotton and is very light weight. The great thing about using cotton yarn for this type of bag is that after taking out all of the items, the bag will return to its original shape vs other types of yarn that once it is stretched out, it will not be the same.

The Classic Cotton Farmers Market Bag requires a lot of cotton yarn and I would highly recommend investing in the Lily Sugar'n Cream Cotton Cone Yarn, 14 oz, Soft Ecru, 1 Cone This is considered an intermediate level pattern  since it uses the ruled lattice stitch, which might be tricky on the first try but once you get the hang of it, it becomes second nature.

Alright lets get into the pattern!

Notes:

  1. For this pattern, make sure to work in continuous rounds in the first 14 rounds, which will result in no visible seams. Starting in round 15 you will stop working in continuous rounds and perform slip stitches to end a row.
  2. If you are not familiar with the ruled lattice stitch, I highly recommend watching Knitiversity's YouTube video "How to Crochet the Ruled Lattice Stitch". This was the video I referred to when creating this pattern since this was also my first time working with ruled lattice stitch.
  3. This pattern is for personal use only. Please do not sell this pattern as your own. Please feel free to sell the finished item and do give credit to Fresh Cut Yarn.
  4. If you will be selling these online, please do provide a link to my shop, thank you!

Materials:

Yarn Weight: 4-medium in soft ecru

Sc2tog= single crochet 2 together
